Torah Competition
Gaining Jewish knowledge makes every contestant – all 10,000
– a winner
Every year 10,000 Jewish children from across
the CIS spend hours of their own time studying Jewish concepts.
A chance to win one of Tzivos Hashem’s ten grand prize trips
to the United States fuels their scholarly pursuits. In their quest
to answer the 100 questions about Shabbat, holidays, and Jewish
history, the children reach out to local rabbis, devour library
books about Judaism, and explore their heritage with a surprising
passion. Superficially, the kids are driven by their desire to win
the trip, but along the way they discover the richness of Jewish
tradition.
The ten children with the most thoughtful essays and correct answers
set off for a life-altering trip to the United States. Along with
trips to the Statue of Liberty and Wall Street, the children are
introduced to American–style Judaism: where Jewish pride, observance,
and success can go hand in hand. The experience is an eye opener
for the children whose parents and grandparents often regard Judaism
as an obstacle and an albatross. Every contest winner comes away
with the knowledge that being a proud Jew life makes them a winner
for life.
During the trip, the contest winners meet with their American peers
at Jewish schools throughout the New York City area. These kid-to-kid
summits leave the American children with a renewed sense of how
fortunate they really are.
Because the contest winners demonstrate such potential, special
effort is made to provide them with the opportunity to quench their
thirst for a Jewish education in the United States. Several contest
winners have gone on to Yeshiva University, Stern College for Women,
and other yeshivas and seminaries.
