Kids to Kids Clothes, Gift, and Craft Drives

Teaching the joys of caring on both sides of the Atlantic

When American children send toys, clothing, and crafts to their age-mates in the CIS, it’s hard to tell who receives more. With each package, the children in the CIS, many of whom live in the Benenson Homes, get more than a nice warm coat or a shiny new toy; they get the sense that someone a world away cares about them. On the other side of the Atlantic, American children who participate in these drives learn a precious lesson. Saving up to buy a gift – as basic as a pretty hair brush and mirror set – helps American children appreciate how much they have and how wonderful it is to share.

Special Programs:

• Craft Connection: American students prepare the supplies for a special arts-and-crafts project and ship them to Jewish schools in the CIS, where there is little if any money for art materials.
• Bar/Bat Mitzvah Theme Match: A flexible giving program is customized to coordinate with a Bar or Bat Mitzvah theme. Participants encourage their guests to bring gifts for needy Jewish children to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration.
• Twinning: Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrants add meaning to their milestone events by sponsoring a Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration for a poor child in the CIS. A complete Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the CIS costs about as much as one American Bar/Bat Mitzvah cake.
